State House health unit arrests Ntungamo District CAO, CFO over ghost Health Centres.

 



Ntungamo district Chief Administrative Officer-CAO, Nasser Mukiibi and other officials including the Chief Finance Officer, district internal auditor and others are in trouble over corruption-related cases.

They were on Monday arrested by Officials of the state house health and medicines monitoring unit led by Dr Brian Arinitwe as they were accused of embezzling funds meant for the health services delivery.

The arrest stems from the recent monitoring of the district payroll system that discovered several ghost Health Centres.

Nasser Mukiibi, the chief administrative officer (CAO) was picked from the district and taken to Ntungamo police to record a statement by the state house officials at about 2:45 pm on Monday afternoon together with the Chief finance officer   Frank Buhamizo Muhwezi The officials later picked the Principal internal Auditor   Colleb Musinguzi and senior internal auditor.

 

They are accused of causing financial loss, criminal neglect of duty, abuse of office and Embezzlement of funds; they were questioned at the police in the evening and slept in the police cells but were on Tuesday released on police bond.

Dr Brian Arinitwe the Assistant Director of the State House Health Monitoring Unit Says that the district officials were arrested as constructive engagement to find a clear picture on discoveries in the system.

 

He says that they are investigating 30 ghost health centres in Ntungamo that have been receiving funds but were non-existence saying that the government has been losing Ugx 260m per month.

The arrest follows the recent monitoring of the district payroll system that discovered that funds were being channelled to at least eight non-existent health centre IVs, including Rwakabengo, Rwakishakizi, Rabarata, Rwakatojo, Rwamabaondo, Rwakamwenda, Rwamujojo, Rwamunjoori, Rwamuranga, and Rwamwanja, which are in other districts.

Four managers of Bwongyera Health Centre III, Rwashamaire Health Centre IV, Rubaare Health Centre IV, and Kitwe Health Centre IV were also questioned before being released on bond
